Special Education Needs
Over the past 10+ years we have taught hundreds of students and along the way we have met and welcomed many students with special educational needs and have had some wonderful and successful experiences teaching them.
We have taught students with varying presentations of ASD/Autism, Dyspraxia, Dyslexia and ADHD, to name a few.
Each interaction and musical pathway has equal worth to us and teachers work with parents and adapt to students. All our teachers are experienced in inspiring students and making them feel comfortable. We have found the social contact and consistency from seeing your music teacher every week, even in lockdown when we were online, proves invaluable to all our students, including those with SEN.
We are a small, family run business and we have personal history with special needs, particularly Autism. This has given us experience and perspective that we apply to our teaching and helps form how we approach and cater for SEN. Katherine and Tom have attended multiple courses on communication, autism and behaviour. Katherine is active in the online Essex SEN community and Tom has a level 2 qualification in ‘Understanding Autism’.

My son has been having piano lessons with Cadenza for almost 4 years.
He is autistic and all the staff at the music school have been flexible, accommodating and positive towards him throughout his musical journey.
Learning to play the piano has been very rewarding for him and us. As well as being such a good way for him to relax and do something purely for pleasure.
Life has its ups and downs for him and sometimes he can find, school, and friendships etc very difficult, but over these past few years Cadenza has remained a stable, constant and grounding place for him to be. He finds great comfort in spending time with his music teacher, who has always welcomed him with kindness, patience and understanding, regardless of how he is feeling about the outside world.
